A Message From Miss Rawson

10th October 2017

2500 Stourfield Junior 069Firstly, a big well done to everyone who took part in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival over the weekend. Particular congratulations go to Millie in Y4 who won the Girls 1.5k junior race and to Ben, one of our former pupils who won the Men’s 10k. It was a beautiful day for running and great to see so many of you out supporting your family, friends … it really does help to have people along the route giving you a shout of encouragement and a wave and many thanks to those of you who did that for me when you spotted me amongst the swell of half marathon runners.

Maths Meetings

When I wrote to you earlier in the term and explained that we were changing the way we organise the children for Maths, I also promised that we would invite you into school to find out more about how this approach works for the benefit of all pupils. We are running this meeting twice, on Wednesday, November 8th at 1800 and again on Tuesday, November 14th at 0900. We do hope that you will find one of these dates convenient and I would urge you to save any questions you have about this topic until then, rather than waste precious minutes of your upcoming parent evening appointment discussing the rationale behind the change.

Breaktime Snacks

The children have been told in assembly that we are making a slight change to our snacks at breaktime policy and will be allowing plain biscuits, as well as fruit from now on. It feels like a long morning for children to manage on just a piece of fruit and the change in policy brings us in line with the infant school. Beth and Dante, our Y6 prefects with a remit health and safety have presented guidelines to the children this morning but essentially, if it is plain and completely nut free, it is permitted. Biscuits that are chocolate covered or contain chocolate or cream are not plain neither are jammy dodgers!

Reminders

Don't forget that we will be holding an Emotional Well Being afternoon on Thursday, November 2nd from 1330 which is an opportunity to find out what is on offer in and out school to support children’s emotional health.
